In the 1830s, Samuel Colt invented the Colt revolver. Colt had a plan for manufacturing his guns. He explained his idea to his father: “The first workman would receive the most important parts, and would put these together and pass them on to the next who would do the same, and so on until the complete revolver is put together. It would then be inspected and given the finishing touches by experts and each gun would be exactly alike and all of its parts would be the same. The workmen, by constant practice in a single operation
