The idea of creating a Museum to display the history of FC Barcelona goes back to the twenties, when the club founder Joan Gamper put the suggestion to members of the board.
For various reasons, the project never got off the ground. It was not until 1984 during the Josep Lluís Núñez presidency that the club was able to inaugurate its Museum. FC Barcelona was once again setting standards for the rest of the football world to follow. Since then, the Museum has been expanded on three occasions, in 1987, 1994 and 1998, to now become a facility that takes up a surface area of 3,500 m2

Year after year, the Museum has been consolidated as one of the finest platforms for explaining the social and cultural projection of the club. It has gained so much prestige that it is now generally considered the best football museum in the world, and is also the most visited museum in the whole of Catalonia, welcoming more than 1,200,000 visitors a year. The Museum has also set an example that many other clubs both in Spain and abroad have followed by starting similar initiatives of their own.

A visit to the Museum, which includes a panoramic view of the stadium from the grandstand, can be divided into three main areas of content.
