자동차 무게의 20～30%를 차지하는 차체부분을 강판에서 알루미늄 합금으로 대체하면 가장 큰 경량화효과 를기대할수있다. 그러나 기존의 재료를 대체하?대체하기 위해서는 강도, 성형성, 내식성, 용접성, 표면처리성 등이 우수하여야 하며, 내연강판에 견줄만하거나 이보다 더 나은 성능을 지녀야 한다. 이와같이 알루미늄은 경량성과 함께 높은 열전도, 주조성과 가공성, 대량생산 및 표면의 미려함등 많은 장점을 가지고 있지만 철강재료보다 값이비싸고 용접과같은 접합성의 개선이 필요하며 강도가 떨어지는 단점이 있다.

Because plastic material which is applied to inside and outside item of vehicle, hood, oil tank, panel etc has 1~2 specific gravity so it has good lightness, flexibility for a manufacturing process and not only good durability but also can make as aerodynamic curved which is latest trend, it is taken notice. However, the cost of material is 3~5 times more expensive than 연강판 and it has lover productivity, 물성 such as 내열성, 탄성계수등 고장력 강판은 인장강도가 일반강판보다 2배정도 높아 차체의 판 두께를 줄여서 경량화를 달성 시킬 수 있지만 가공이 어렵고 용접성이 떨어지며 형태의 수명이 저하되는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이와 같이 경량화 재료들은 장단점이 있어 자동차 회사마다 그 사용 정도가 차이가 있지만 각 회사마다 재료경량화를 위한 노력이 치열하다. 실제로 차종에서는 높은 비중의 알루미늄 재료를 사용하고 있다.
고장력 강판 has about twice 인장강도 than 일반 강판, so reducing thick of vehicle panel, it achieves lightness, but it has demerit that is hard processing, bad welding, lowering durability. Like this lightweight item has both merit and demerit, each vehicle coperation, there is some difference, intensely endeavor to do lightweight of material. Actually, in some kinds of vehicle, high deal of aluminum is used.
