in 1991, mt. pinatubo, a volcano in the philippines, exploded. fortunately, a team of volcano scientists was there to warn the people and about 20,000 lives were saved. onescientist on this team was randy white. he became interested in volcanoes after living next to a volcano in japan while he was in high school. this made him decide that he wanted to work as a volcano scientst. he went to stanford university in the united states and after graduating in 1974, found his job. this is how he ended up working on the research team.
